Polestar 4 shines at Australian Good Design Awards 2025

Polestar 4 is redefining the SUV coupé segment and the world continues to pay attention, winning two prestigious accolades at this year’s Australian Good Design Awards. In the wake of Polestar 3’s success at last year’s Good Design Awards, Polestar 4 has taken home a Gold Award in the Product Design category and the coveted Best in Class Award for Automotive and Transport.

Presented at a gala event in Sydney, the awards celebrate Polestar 4’s bold and cutting-edge approach to design and technology. The Good Design Awards are among the world’s most prestigious design accolades, and have played a critical role in shaping a functional and sustainable society through design since 1958. Polestar’s recognition at the awards cements our position as a leader in electric mobility and design innovation

The jury lauded Polestar 4 for its innovative reinterpretation of the SUV-coupé. “Exemplary in its execution, the technology package is non-invasive and wrapped up with very thoughtful design solutions,” they noted. Praise was given to the interior, particularly around the use of colour, sustainable materials, and attention to detail on the interior’s finer finishes.

Tasked with designing the car from scratch, the Polestar design team looked to alternative industries such as fashion and art, to draw inspiration for a modern, elegant interior space that wouldn’t compromise quality or sustainability.

Komal Singh, Polestar CMF Design Expert, shared insights into the inspiration behind the materials used in Polestar 4: “Soft-Tech draws influences from the world of sportswear and fashion. Material technology on the cutting edge, executed in the quintessential Polestar way.”

One of the most striking (and talked about) features of Polestar 4 is the absence of a rear window. This daring design choice was made to enhance aerodynamics, while creating a uniquely open and spacious interior. “The lack of rear window may be controversial, but delivers a clever and innovative packaging solution for a car this size. It is sure to be emulated,” the jury added.

Subum Lee, Polestar Exterior Design Lead, reflected on the innovative design process: “The idea behind Polestar 4 began with a question, ‘How can we preserve the spaciousness of an SUV while shaping the dynamic silhouette of a coupe?’ Innovation begins with questioning what’s taken for granted.”

It was this thought process that led the team to replace the rear window with a high-definition camera, which would not only enhance the driver’s field of view, but also create a more spacious rear seating configuration.

Scott Maynard, Managing Director of Polestar Australia, highlighted the significance of the win: “We’re thrilled Polestar 4 has been recognised by Good Design Australia, following in the wheel tracks of Polestar 3.

“With its eye-catching exterior, luxurious interior with sustainable materials in the spotlight, and typical Polestar driving dynamics, it sets a new standard for luxury SUV design.”
