Polestar 4 wins Best EV Under $90k at Drive Car of the Year

Polestar 4 has been named Best Electric Vehicle Under $90k at the 2026 Drive Car of the Year awards, reinforcing its leadership in one of Australia’s most competitive segments. This follows last year’s luxury category win, and accolades at the 2025 Good Design Awards, further cementing Polestar 4 as a benchmark for progressive electric vehicle design.

The Drive Car of the Year awards recognise vehicles that deliver a strong ownership experience. Judged by experienced motoring journalists, vehicles are assessed on real-world criteria including performance, efficiency, safety, technology, comfort and value. Polestar 4’s win highlights how its distinctive design, composed performance, and innovative technology are redefining expectations for modern EVs.

Polestar 4 is designed to be bold and exciting, while remaining comfortable and functional. The absence of a rear window is one of its most talked-about features, replaced with a high-definition rear-facing camera. This delivers a wider field of view while enhancing interior space, a twofold benefit from a clever design choice.

Inside, carefully curated materials create a premium experience with a spotlight on sustainability. With Scandinavian minimalism at its core, the interior takes design cues from the fashion and art worlds, creating a modern and sophisticated space. Responsible materials, such as the optional Tailored Knit made from recycled PET waste, elevate the feeling of luxury rather than work against it.

Beyond design, Polestar 4 delivers an outstanding driving experience. Behind the wheel, the meticulous engineering and tuning it has undergone quickly becomes apparent. Its chassis dynamics are developed in Sweden, providing a balance of comfort and control. The Long range Single motor variant offers up to 620km of range (WLTP), more than sufficient for the average Australian driver.

Drive’s judges recognised these qualities in their decision. As Drive Director of Content and 2026 judge James Ward noted, Polestar 4 delivers “pure style and refinement from every angle,” describing it as quiet, smooth and confidently executed in its vision of electric luxury.
